Aug 9: Journeys’ Ends

Paul in Rome, Drew at home

On Sunday, August 9, we mark the conclusions of two long journeys.

Rev. Drew returns from the sabbatical that he embarked on in April. He has spent the past few months travelling in the United States and England, spending time worshiping in a variety of churches, engaging in study, attending an international church leadership conference, and in personal discovery at a men’s retreat and in quiet reflection. Drew has written to us that he feels refreshed, reinvigorated, and looking forward to coming back to St. John’s.

Over the past few weeks we have been hearing about Paul’s missionary journeys, told in the book of Acts. This Sunday, Paul comes to the end of his third and final journey as he arrives in Rome. Having spent years travelling throughout the Middle East to help establish and strengthen the church, he now arrives in Rome where he proclaims the gospel in the heart of the Roman empire. On Sunday, Rev. Anne will finish the sermon series on Acts with the story of Paul’s arrival in Rome.
