Apr 28: Lychgate Group 40 Years

Anniversary Lunch Celebration

The Lychgate Group was started at St. John’s in 1978 as a social and service club for the women of the parish. This year, forty years later, the Lychgate Group is going strong so it’s time to celebrate!

Over the years, the Lychgate Group has been a significant part of the life of the parish. Lychgate continues to serve, helping St. John’s to host events such as Doors Open Toronto and the World Day of Prayer, to bring in speakers including the women who spoke about L’Arche and the historian who presented artwork based on the parables, and to organize visits to places such as the Aga Khan museum and the ROM’s Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit. Of course, the members of Lychgate still find time to socialize and nurture lasting friendships.

Luncheon and Guest Speaker

All women of of parish are invited to attend. There will be a reception and lunch staring at noon. Following lunch, Bev Salmon, a long-time member of St. John’s, will talk about her career.

Beverly Salmon, a parishioner at St. John’s, has been inducted into both the Order of Canada and the Order of Ontario. Bev has been an activist for civil rights in Toronto, where she helped found both the Race Relations Committee of the Toronto Board of Education and Urban Alliance on Race Relations. She has also been commissioner of the Ontario Human Rights Commission – the first black woman to so do.

Tickets for this event are $25 per person and are available on Sunday mornings in the foyer and during the week from the church office.
