On Saturday, May 26, the SJYM Youth are going to Niagara-on-the-Lake, or possibly Narnia, to take in the play The Magician’s Nephew at the Shaw Festival.
This play by C.S. Lewis tells the story of how two children, exploring where they live in London in 1900, stumble through a magic portal to a “wood between worlds” that lets them travel to other worlds. They travel to one, where they accidentally unleash a dark force. The children try flee alone back to London, but the dark force follows them through the portal. The two children must now embark on a journey, not of curiosity but of necessity, between worlds and between the forces of good and evil.
Our trip to the Shaw Festival begins at 9 a.m. when we depart from SJYM via carpool for Niagara-on-the-Lake. When we arrive, we’ll stop for a picnic lunch (please bring your own lunch), then we’ll head in to the Festival Theatre. Following the performance, we’ll take some time for ice cream and for a discussion with Drew about the play and its Christian themes. Estimated time to be back at SJYM is 5 p.m.
Please offer a prayer for the young people on our final SJYM Youth event before summer break, that they have a safe journey and an entertaining day.
