At the Men’s Supper Club on December 11, we consider the passage through the Shadowlands which marks the transition between the two halves of life as described in the book Falling Upward by Richard Rohr.
According to Rohr, we spend the first part of our lives forging our identity through accomplishments – education, career, home, family, standing in the community. But as we succeed in our accomplishments, we grow to realize they don’t really define us.
It is then that we embark on a spiritual journey to the second part of our life – a journey that calls for introspection, loss of previously precious things and facing difficult truths, but then finding our real, life-sustaining identity. This challenging journey happens in a place that Rohr calls the Shadowlands. The Shadowlands is our topic for discussion at the next Men’s Supper Club.
Men’s Supper Club in December
At our gathering on December 11, we’ll sit down to a hearty dinner courtesy of Doug Hart, and then we’ll discuss what Richard Rohr has to say. This will be our final session with Rohr’s book.
If you haven’t already done so, we suggest that you spend some time with Falling Upward, then plan to come on December 11, 2018 with a healthy appetite and an open mind.
