Sun Dec 4, 3:00 p.m. – Sing and Ring – A fun-filled concert for the whole family, featuring our handbell and handchime ringers, the choir, the band … and you! Bring your friends – admission is free – there is a free-will offering for charity.

Tue Dec 6, 7:30 p.m. – Women’s Book Club – In the Marsh Room. Discussing chapter 2 from Sarah Bessey’s book Out of Sorts: Making Peace with an Evolving Faith, a guide to thinking about and finding resolutions for the challenging issues of faith. All women are welcome! Bring a friend.

Thu Dec 8, 7:30 p.m. – Lychgate Meeting – The ladies of the Lychgate Group are getting together for the annual Sweets and Savouries Christmas Party. Location is to be determined. Members are welcome to bring guests.

Fri Dec 9, 7:00 p.m. – Contemplative Fire: Fireworks! – What gets you fired up? Every month at St. Leonard’s Church, 25 Wanless Av, we hear a short talk on a relevant topic followed by a specific question for small-group discussion. For info see Rev. Tue Dec 13, 6:30 p.m. – Men’s Supper Club – Gentlemen, you’re invited to an evening of food for the body and food for the soul. Gather at 6:30, dinner at 7:00, discussion at 7:30. This month we talk about ideas from the book Know Doubt: Embracing Uncertainty in Your Faith by John Ortberg (previously titled “Faith & Doubt”). A few copies of the book are available from the Church office for $25 each.

Wed Dec 14, 8:30 a.m. – Barnabas BreakfastEarly date for Christmas – Until 11 a.m. A warm breakfast, spiritual comfort, and fellowship. Volunteers are always welcome – please contact the church office at 416-225-6611.

Sat Dec 17, 10:00 a.m. – Decorating the Church with Bill – Join caretaker Bill in getting the church ready for Christmas. Many hands make light work of putting up the tree, displaying the nativity scene, and adding seasonal touches throughout the church.

Sun Dec 18, 10:30 a.m. – Last Children’s Ministry until Jan 8 – Following this Sunday, the Children’s Ministry takes a break until January 8, 2017. Have a blessed Christmas, everyone!

Sun Dec 18, 5:00 p.m. – Candlelight and Christmas Carols – Bells and band, choir and candles – experience the Christmas story through words and music. Free-will offerings for Outreach will be accepted.

Tue Dec 20, 2:00 p.m. – Seniors’ Christmas Eucharist Service – An opportunity for seniors and others who are not able to attend church regularly, to enjoy Christmas worship and fellowship together.

Wed Dec 21, 7:00 p.m. – Healing and Light – On the shortest day of the year, we welcome the Light of the World. For those who find Christmas a challenging time, we offer this service of healing prayer and communion.

Sat Dec 24, 5:00 p.m. – Family Christmas Eve Service – A short but lively and spirited celebration of the birthday of Jesus, especially for families. Includes communion.

Sat Dec 24, 10:00 p.m. – Classic Christmas Eve Service – As midnight approaches, a traditional candle-lit Christmas communion service with our choir.

Sun Dec 25, 9:00 a.m. – The Sacred Table at Christmas – A gentle and relaxed communion service honouring the nativity of our Lord.

Note – There is no Open Door or Forum on this Sunday, Christmas day.

Fri Dec 30, 9 a.m. to noon – Church Office is Open – The office is open to receive any final donations for 2016. Donations sent by mail must be postmarked in 2016 to be included in the year’s receipts. (Other than Friday morning, the office is closed for the week of December 26.)

A gathering of people who are dedicated to the spiritual growth of children – parents, church volunteers, ministry leaders, and anyone who has a passion for ministering to children. Tue Nov 8, 6:30 p.m. – Men’s Supper Club – Postponed – The Men’s Supper Club will resume with the December monthly meeting. This month, you’re invited to An Evening of Vimy on Thursday, November 10.

Thu Nov 10, 6:45 p.m. – An Evening of Vimy – Noted historian Ted Barris and a student winner of the Beaverbrook Vimy Prize speak about this decisive WWI battle and its place of importance to all Canadians. The evening begins with a reception.

Thu Nov 10, 8:30 p.m. – Lychgate Meeting – Ladies, the Lychgate Group meets in the Garnsworthy room. This month, we gather following the Vimy presentation with Ted Barris for a business meeting.

Fri Nov 11, 10:45 a.m. – Remembrance Day Service at Yonge Corporate Centre – A brief service in the foyer of 4100 Yonge Street (north of York Mills Av.) to remember the courage and the price paid by those who knew war so that we may know peace.

Fri Nov 11, 7:00 p.m. – Contemplative Fire: Fireworks! – At St. Leonard’s Church, 25 Wanless Av. What gets you fired up? This month, we welcome Rev. Sat Nov 12, 7:30 p.m. – Silent Film Night – Join us for the screening of the Harold Lloyd classic comedy Speedy. Acclaimed organist William O’Meara will provide music improvised on the spot in the tradition of silent film accompanists. More info here; poster here. Admission is free. On the next Sunday – Sept. 18 – the children will stay with the congregation as we celebrate our 200th Anniversary. The fall/winter Children’s Ministry programs will start on the Sunday following, Sept. 25.

Sun June 12, 12 noon – Strawberry Social – For our 200th anniversary, join us for a very traditional get-together – the Strawberry Social – but with an update because the men of the Supper Club are hosting.

Thu May 5, 7:30 p.m. – Ordination of Curate Tim Taylor – Rev. Tim Taylor, currently serving as a curate at St. John’s, will be ordained into the priesthood by Bishop Patrick Yu. An evening of ceremony and of celebration featuring singer Ken Whitely and SJYM musicians.

Mon May 9, 7:30 p.m. – Premier Kathleen Wynne speaks on Social Policy – This is a unique opportunity for parishioners and visitors to learn more and ask questions about public policy that impacts the well-being of hundreds of thousands of Ontario citizens including some of the most vulnerable. Hosted by SJYM’s FaithWorks and Outreach Committee and by Voices for a Just Society.

Mon-Fri May 9-13 – Splendour of Silence at Manresa Retreat – An opportunity to learn how to spend extended time in silence. Each day there will be devotion and communion as well as times of teaching about a variety of prayer practices. Each day you have the opportunity to meet with a Spiritual Director. Thu Jan 14, 7:30 p.m. – Lychgate Meeting – Ladies of the Lychgate, come and hear Jill O’Donnell, author of Searching for Robert, Finding Andrew, speak about her 47 years of struggle to find her son. As a single pregnant women in the early sixties with few options, Jill had carried her baby to term and then given him up in a private adoption. Jill will shed light on the changes society has undergone during that time.
