Tue Dec 5, 2:00 p.m. – Senior’s Communion and Tea – An opportunity for seniors and others who are not able to attend church regularly to enjoy worship and fellowship together.

Sun Dec 10, 3:00 p.m. – Sing and Ring – Warm up to the Christmas season with our fun family concert. Enjoy the music of the handbell ringers, the band, and the choir. There’s even a chance for you, the audience, to participate.

Tue Dec 12, 6:30 p.m. – Men’s Supper ClubAt St. Leonard’s Church. Gentlemen, you’re invited to an evening of food for the body and the soul. Gather at 6:30, dinner at 7:00, discussion at 7:30. This month, we consider chapter 5 of Lee Strobel’s book The Case for Faith: Is it offensive to say that Jesus is the only way to God?

Thur Dec 14, 7:00 p.m. – Lychgate Group Christmas Party – The Lychgate Women’s Group gathers for the annual sweets ‘n savouries Christmas party. Location is to be announced. Members are welcome to bring guests.

Sat Dec 16, 10:00 a.m. – Decorating the church with Bill and Mark – It’s time to get the church ready for Christmas! Join caretakers Bill and Mark and the eFlower Guild in making the church look its best. There’s plenty to be done, from decorating the tree to adding greenery throughout, and many hands make light work. Hot chocolate, coffee and Christmas treats will be there.

Sun Dec 17, 10:30 a.m. – Final Children’s Ministry until Jan 7, 2018 – Following this Sunday, the Children’s Ministry takes a break for two weeks. Have a blessed Christmas, everyone!

Sun Dec 17, 7:00 p.m. – Candlelight Christmas Carol Service – With the bell ringers and the choir, experience a traditional retelling of the Christmas story through words and music. Free-will offerings for Outreach.

Fri Dec 22, 3:30 p.m. – Church office closes until Tues Jan 2 – Exception: the office will open on Friday morning, Dec 29, for end-of-year donations.

Sun Dec 24, 5:00 p.m. – Family Christmas Eve Service – A lively and spirited celebration of the birthday of Jesus, especially for families. Includes communion and a children’s program.

Sun Dec 24, 10:00 p.m. – Classic Christmas Eve Service – As midnight approaches, a traditional candle-lit Christmas communion service with our choir.

Mon Dec 25, 9:00 a.m. – The Sacred Table at Christmas – A quiet, traditional communion service honouring the nativity of our Lord.

Thur Nov 2, 6:00 p.m. – The St. Johnsmen’s Dinner – All men of the parish are invited to this annual event. This year, surgical oncologist Dr. Peter K. Stotland, MD, MSc, FRCSC, will be speaking about advances in the detection and treatment of colorectal cancer. It’s an evening for an exquisite reception, a hearty dinner, and an engaging talk. Tickets $30 each or $55 for father and son, uncle and nephew, etc.

Sun Nov 5, 9:00 a.m. to noon – Remembrance Day Services – On this Sunday at our regular services, we remember and honour those who made sacrifices in past wars and conflicts so that we may enjoy what we have today. Following the 9:00 Sacred Table service, there will be a procession to the churchyard to dedicate the Vimy Oak saplings. Following the 10:30 Open Door service, there will be a Town Hall meeting (see next item).

Sun Nov 5, 11:30 a.m. – Town Hall – All congregants are encouraged to take part in the Town Hall meeting where we will discuss possibilities and proposals for the next few years at St. John’s. (There will not be a Forum this Sunday.)

The members of the Council are cooking up a tempting smorgasbord of dishes; parishioners are invited to bring their own contributions to add to the potluck table. (There will be no Forum today.)

Tue Nov 14, 6:30 p.m. – Men’s Supper ClubPostponed – In November, all men are invited to The St.Johnsmen’s Dinner on November 2. The Men’s Supper Club will resume on Tuesday, December 12.

Wed Nov 15, 7:00 p.m. – Divorce RecoveryStarting at YLF – A divorce or relationship breakdown can be one of the most stressful events in a person’s life. In this course of four weekly sessions, attendees find out about the feelings they are going through, get answers to common questions, and learn that they are not alone. Sat Nov 18, 4:00 p.m. – Payam Akhavan speaks: In Search of a Better World – The Toronto Book Club presents Payam Akhavan, 2017 CBC Massey Lecturer, at the lectern. He will speak on and discuss ideas from his book In Search of a Better World, about trying to bring war criminals to justice, how it affected him, and what he learned. Admission is $15 in advance and $20 at the door; more info is here.

Sat Nov 18, 7:30 p.m. – Massed Handbell Concert at St. Mark’s Cathedral – The Rockin’ Ringers of St. John’s join six other handbell choirs in a concert Ring in Christmas. The concert is at St. Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Cathedral, 455 Ferrier Drive, Markham. $10/adult, $5/child 7-12, free/child under 7. More info here.

Sun Sept 10, 11:30 a.m. – Barbecue for Outreach – Following the Open Door, the SJYM Outreach team is hosting a fundraising barbecue on the patio. Bishop Kevin Robertson will be here. Join us on the patio for burgers, hot dogs, and cold treats. There’s also a car wash, and someone might be getting a pie in the face.

Mon Sept 11, 6:00 p.m. – Handchime and Handbell music programs start – The kickoff evening for the Handchime Choir (grades 3 to 6) and the Rockin’ Ringers (grade 7 and up). We encourage and welcome new ringers! No musical experience needed – enjoy free music lessons, have fun and make new friends, and take part in concerts including Sing and Ring at Christmas.

Tue Apr 11, 6:30 p.m. – Men’s Supper Club goes to the Movies – This month, the men are going to the movies and they’re inviting the women to join them! All are invited to The Case for Christ, the movie based on the story of journalist Lee Strobel. At the Cineplex Cinema Vaughan, near Hwys 7 and 400. The movie starts at 6:55 p.m. More info here.

Wed Apr 12, 3:00 p.m. – Seniors’ Eucharist at St. Leonard’s Church – A service of Eucharist especially for seniors. At this afternoon service, share in the Eucharist in a friendly and sociable service.

Thu Apr 13, 7:30 p.m. – Maundy Thursday – An informal observation of the Last Supper, followed by the stripping of the church to prepare for Good Friday.

Thu Apr 13, 8:30 p.m. – Lychgate Meeting – Following the Maundy Thursday service, the Lychgate Group meets in the Garnsworthy room. Take time for an evening for socializing and for conversation around a theme topic.

Fri Apr 14, 10:00 a.m. – Good Friday – The Passion Story – the story of the final hours before Jesus’s crucifixion – told with music and drama. A Children’s program is offered.

Sun Apr 16, 9:00 a.m. – The Sacred Table – A traditional service of celebration with Holy Communion to welcome the risen Christ.

Sun Apr 16, 10:30 a.m. – The Open Door – a joyful family service filled with music and praise celebrating the resurrection of Jesus. A special program is offered for the children.

It’s part of A Cross-Cultural Experience Through Art and Music, an afternoon of tours and performances for Myseum’s Intersections Festival.
