Sun Dec 9, 3:00 p.m. – Christmas Sing and Ring – Our annual Christmas concert featuring the musicians of SJYM – handbell ringers, band, choir, and organist. It’s a fun family concert that even invites you, the audience, to participate! Free admission; free-will offering for charity.

Tue Dec 11, 6:30 p.m. – Men’s Supper Club – Gentlemen, you’re invited to an evening of food, fellowship, and frank discussion around a piece of contemporary Christian writing. This month, we’ll finish our look at Richard Rohr’s book Falling Upward. Gather at 6:30, dinner at 7:00, discussion at 7:30.

Wed Dec 12, 8:00 a.m. – Barnabas Christmas Breakfast – Until 11 a.m., a warm breakfast, spiritual comfort, and fellowship. Volunteers are always welcome; please contact the church office at 416-225-6611.

Thur Dec 13, 7:00 p.m. – Lychgate Group Christmas Party – The women of the Lychgate Group gather for the annual sweets ‘n savouries potluck Christmas party. Location is to be announced.

Fri Dec 14, 7:30 p.m. – Christmas in the CommunityAt YLF – A special service with words and worship, music and singing, and welcome and warmth. Come early at 7:00 p.m. for some Christmas-themed refreshments. It’s a wonderful way to ease into the Christmas spirit – bring a friend!

Sat Dec 15, 10:00 a.m. – Decorating the church for Christmas – Join caretakers Bill and Mark and the Flower Guild as we make the church look its best for Christmas. There’s plenty to be done and many hands make light work. Hot chocolate, coffee and Christmas treats will be there.

Sun Dec 16, 10:30 a.m. – Children’s Christmas Pageant at the Open Door – The children perform a play that tells the story of the birth of Jesus.

Sun Dec 16, 7:00 p.m. – Candlelight & Carols – With the choir and handbell ringers, experience the Christmas story told through traditional words and music. Free-will offerings to the work of SJYM in local communities and around the world.

Thur Dec 20, 2:00 p.m. – Seniors’ Christmas Communion & Tea – A time for seniors and others who are not able to attend church regularly, to enjoy Christmas worship and a reception afterward.

Thur Dec 20, 7:00 p.m. – Longest Night of the YearAt St. Leonard’s Church – On this evening of the longest night of the year, a service for people who are grieving or finding it difficult to cope.

Fri Dec 21, 3:30 p.m. – Church Office closes until Jan 2, 2019 – The office will open on the morning of Dec 31 for donations only. The office staff wish everyone a joyful Christmas.

Mon Dec 24, 5:00 p.m. – Family Christmas Eve Service – A lively and spirited celebration of the birthday of Jesus, tailored especially for families. Includes communion and activities for children.

Mon Dec 24, 10:00 p.m. – Classic Christmas Eve – As we approach midnight, a candlelit Christmas communion service in the traditional style with the choir.

Tue Dec 25, 9:00 a.m. – The Sacred Table on Christmas Day – A quiet and traditional service to honour the nativity of our Lord.

Sun Dec 30, 9:00 a.m. to noon – Regular Sunday services – Regular services resume this Sunday: 9:00 The Sacred Table; 10:30 The Open Door; 11:30 The Forum.

Mon Dec 31, 10:00 a.m. to noon – Church office open for end-of-year donations – Final donations for 2018 can be made today at the church office, by mail postmarked by Dec 31, and online at canadahelps.org by Dec 31 evening.

Thur Nov 1, 6:00 p.m. – Kidstown Volunteer Thank-You – If you lent a hand to bring Kidstown to life this summer, we want to thank you! Please join us in the Shepard room for an hour at our Snacktacular. Tour the results of your work, allow us to give thanks, and enjoy a few nibbles.

Sat Nov 3 – Toronto Children’s Ministry ConferenceAt Wycliffe College, a day for people dedicated to the spiritual growth of children and youth – ministry leaders, parents, church volunteers. Hear dynamic speakers, participate in workshops, and meet others who share your passion. Click for information or to register.

Sun Nov 4, 12:00 noon – Trip to the Museum – After the regular classes this Sunday, children are invited to join Alison and volunteers on a trip to the Royal Ontario Museum. We’ll travel via the subway.

Sun Nov 11, 11:00 a.m. – Special Remembrance Day Service – Arrive at 10:45 a.m. for a prompt start at 11 am. This service honours the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I. Guest speaker: Rt Rev. Bishop S. Andrews, Principal, Wycliffe College. Followed by a reception.

Sun Oct 21, 11:45 a.m. – Annual Vestry Meeting – All members of the congregation are encouraged to attend the annual general meeting of the church. Attendees will receive reports about the past year’s activities, hear about church finances, and consider plans and directions for the year ahead. A light lunch will be available for those who attend and there is childcare with with a pizza lunch.

Mon Oct 22, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. – Toronto Election Voting Day – The foyer of St. John’s is a polling station for the Toronto municipal election.

Thur Oct 25, 6:30 p.m. – St Johnsmen’s Dinner – All men are invited to this annual event at which we enjoy camaraderie, a hearty dinner and an engaging presentation. This year, Ted Barris tells the story of an audacious World War II bombing raid into the industrial heartland of the enemy, which he write about in his newest book, Dam Busters. Bring a brother or friend; father-son, uncle-nephew, grandfather-grandson and big-little brother pairs get a discount! H’ors d’oeuvres at 6:30, dinner at 7:30.

For people new to or becoming reacquainted with St John’s Yorket to know St. John’s York Mills Church. Sun Sept 16, 10:30 a.m. – Children’s Ministry Begins its 2018-2019 Year – For children from pre-school to grade 6, the Children’s Ministry kicks off its 2018-2019 program. The program runs at the time of the Open Door service (10:30 a.m.). At the beginning of the service, children are invited to gather at the front and follow the leaders to the children’s area.

Sun Sept 23, 10:30 a.m. – Outreach Sunday – This year, we are honoured to welcome Danielle Strickland as guest preacher at the Open Door. Danielle is driven by her deep faith to evangelize and to strive for social justice: her “aggressive compassion” has earned her worldwide acclaim.

Sun June 24, 7:00 p.m. – Strikepoint in Concert – Acclaimed handbell ensemble from Duluth, Minnesota, is on stage at St. John’s for the only Canadian stop in their 2018 summer tour. It’s an enchanting evening of music from classical to rock. Admission is free but a $15 donation is suggested.

Tue Feb 13, 6:15 and 6:45 p.m. – Shrove Tuesday Pancake SupperAt St. Leonard’s Church – Celebrate the tradition of Mardi Gras with a pancake supper. Hosted every year at St. Leonard’s by the Boy Scouts, this year we’re expanding to include St. John’s and Yonge Lawrence Fellowship. Two seatings for supper, at 6:15 and 6:45. All parishioners are invited – and invited to bring friends and neighbours.

Tue Feb 13, 7:00 p.m. – City of Toronto Information Meeting for Highrise Proposal – The City of Toronto has received a proposal for a 14-storey office building on Yonge Street on land that abuts St. John’s church grounds. The meeting is open to the public. All parishioners and neighbours are encouraged to attend, learn about the proposal, ask questions, and voice any opinions.

Wed Feb 14 – Ash Wednesday Services – Simple spoken-word services to mark the beginning of Lent, including the imposition of ashes (marking of the cross on the forehead). Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent, a time for fasting, reflection and repentance.
