December 29 Services Cancelled – Power still not restored
The clergy and wardens of St. John’s York Mills are truly disappointed to inform you that the power is still out at the church requiring us to cancel services for Sunday, December 29. In addition to the lack of heat, the power outage impacts our septic system so the church has no washrooms.
We encourage you to worship wherever you can, and include in your prayers those who still do not have electrical power as well as those individuals working to restore it. Please check the website and your email for updates.
God willing, we will hold special celebrations on Epiphany Sunday, January 5. We hope to come together, reconnect as a faith community and share our reflections on this unique Christmas season.
Christmas and year-end donations
Many of you make year-end and Christmas donations. In order to ensure that you are able to have these and your regular gifts credited to your 2013 taxes, the office will be staffed from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.on Monday, December 30 and from 9:30 a.m. to Noon on Tuesday, December 31 whether or not the power is on. We have a small generator to provide a little heat to the office and wewill be working in shifts.
We are a little concerned about the financial implications of having missed two Sundays and Christmas services as we typically receive over 25 per cent of our annual income at this time of the year.
We thank you for your ongoing financial and spiritual support of our faith community.
Help your neighbours if you can
Most of our parishioners now have power and a few still do not. Whether or not you have power, please take a moment to call anyone you know who may need a helping hand or even just a friendly voice during this difficult time.
There is no power at the church (as at 11:00 a.m. on December 28) so there is no phone service or voice mail. In case of a pastoral emergency, you may contact one of the clergy via cell phone:
- The Rev. Canon Dr. Drew MacDonald: 647-237-5591
- The Rev. Anne Crosthwait: 416-834-3400
Please stay as safe and warm as you can. We will all be praying for your health and safety, and a return of power.
