On Friday June 1, 2018, at 1 p.m., you’re invited to join in prayer at SJYM. We’ll be a part of a day of prayer and fasting as the Diocese prepares to elect a new Bishop.
Election of Bishop to Succeed Rev. Colin Johnson
Rev. Colin Johnson, the current Diocesan Bishop of Toronto, will be retiring on December 31, 2018. This Saturday, June 9, members of the Synod for Toronto will gather at St. James Cathedral to elect a Coadjutor Bishop. The newly elected bishop will begin serving under the direction of Rev. Johnson. When Rev. Johnson steps down at the end of this year, the new bishop will step in and become the Diocesan Bishop of Toronto.
Diocese Day of Prayer and Fasting
Friday, June 1, has been designated as a day of prayer and fasting in the Diocese of Toronto, to pray for the members of Synod so that they may discern the will of God for our church. Synod delegates are called on to reflect, to listen, and to be thoughtful. Congregants at large can help by praying for spiritual discernment among the delegates. The discipline of fasting helps bring focus and clarity in our spiritual efforts. The discipline of unified prayer brings blessings in understanding God’s will and receiving His guidance.
Community Prayer at St. John’s
Here at St. John’s, out recently arrived curate Shelly Pollard will be leading prayers starting at 1 p.m. All congregants of St. John’s are invited to gather with Shelly in the Garnsworthy room to pray together for the Synod delegates that they may hear the Holy Spirit as they prepare to elect the new bishop.
You are encouraged to fast this day, June 1, by forgoing one or two meals and also by forgoing things that normally occupy much of your attention such as social media or TV. Please then consider joining with Shelly at the church at 1 p.m. for this time of communal prayer.
