Lent brings with it the imperative and the urgency of repentance, a repentance that bears fruit in action. God is not interested in a mere show of remorse, but in behaviour that proves it genuine. The Christian life is an upward journey. Ash Wednesday and the period of Lent offer us an opportunity to take another step upward, to move further along in our journey, to shed some of the “encumbrance of sin” that clings to us.
This study guide has been prepared for the purpose of encouraging you to reflect more deeply and personally on the Lenten readings. New pages will be posted each Wednesday and Sunday throughout Lent. A copy of the whole booklet can be purchased from the church office. Copyright: St. John’s, York Mills Anglican Church
