The World Day of Prayer had its beginnings in the 19th century as women from different denominations in Canada and the United States began to feel called to pray corporately for Christian mission work at home and abroad. Their initiatives have grown to involve Christians in more than 170 countries and regions around the world participating in a single day of prayer and worship. The first Friday in March has been set aside for this. Each year a service is prepared by women of a different country, giving Christians an opportunity to affirm their faith in Jesus Christ, to share their hopes, their joys, their fears and sor-rows. The service this year has been prepared by the women of Egypt.
Eight churches of different denominations in our area share in this event, held this year in Forest Grove United Church (maps will be available). You are invited to join others from St. John’s on Friday, March 7. The offerings received from services held in Canada support the work of The Women’s Interchurch Council of Canada here in our own country and around the world.
